Common questions

Do my files ever leave my device?

Never — in the web app, all conversion happens inside your browser tab using a Web Worker. No file content is uploaded to any server. The server only handles license issuance after purchase.

How does the 7-day trial work?

Your trial starts the moment you run your first conversion. You get full access — all sources, all export formats, no limits — for 7 days. No credit card is required to start.

What happens to my converted files if my license expires?

Nothing — files you've already converted are yours and are stored locally. An expired license only prevents future conversions; it never locks or deletes anything you've already produced.

Does the "forever" license really cover all future versions?

Yes, unconditionally. Every license we issue stamps versionScope: "all-versions" and there is no version-checking code path anywhere in the software. You will never be asked to pay again to use a newer version.

How do I activate my license?

After purchase, you receive a signed license file (.freenext-license.json) by email. Drop it into the app settings panel or pass it via the CLI with freenext --license path/to/file.json. No internet connection required to verify it.

Can I pay with Bitcoin or Lightning?

Yes — every plan above has a "Pay with Bitcoin" option. Crypto payments are processed through our self-hosted BTCPay Server. You receive the same signed offline license file by email. Annual and B2B crypto licenses last one calendar year and must be renewed manually (no auto-renewal).

Are Bitcoin and Lightning licenses the same as fiat licenses?

Yes. Both rails issue the same signed offline entitlement. Consumer Forever is $34.99 by Bitcoin or Lightning; Self-Hosted Forever is $24.99. Both are one-time, perpetual, all-versions licenses.

Do support contributions grant any license?

No. Support contributions (fiat or crypto) are purely voluntary. They do not grant any license, entitlement, or commercial feature access regardless of amount. If you need a license, purchase a plan above.

Can I self-host for free?

The 7-day trial applies to self-hosted instances too. After that, the self-hosted plans above are discounted to reflect that you're providing your own infrastructure.
