FreENEXt Features
Supported Formats & Features

Own your knowledge, not another silo

Import from the tools that locked you in, convert to formats you control, and carry your notes into Bosun or any vault you choose.

Features & Supported Capabilities

1. Supported Source Importers

  • Evernote (.enex) Converter: Full parsing of ENEX files, preservation of note metadata (creation date, tags, source URL), and automated extraction of embedded resources/attachments.
  • Notion Workspace Porter: Reconstructs Notion ZIP exports (HTML or Markdown) back into logical folder trees and translates database items.
  • Apple Notes Connector: Parses local SQLite databases or reads exported Apple Notes bundles via native automation scripts to recover full formatting and attachments.
  • Raw HTML & Text Vaults: Sanitizes legacy web exports or raw HTML dumps, stripping nested tags and converting them to clean Markdown.

2. Translation & Hardening Engine

  • Asymmetrical Formatting Preservation: Keeps styles (bold, italics, blocks, lists) clean without creating ugly inline HTML tags.
  • Attachment Relinking: Auto-extracts image and file attachments, stores them in a local assets folder, and updates all note references to use relative paths.
  • Link Translation options: Choose between standard Markdown links `[Title](path.md)`, Wikilinks `[[Title]]`, or keeping original database UUID linkages.
  • YAML Frontmatter Generation: Converts database columns, tags, and custom metadata fields into clean frontmatter at the top of each file.
  • Tag Normalization: Strips invalid characters from tags and ensures consistent nesting schemas.

3. Destination Vault Formats

  • Standard Markdown (Open format): Universal, flat-file structure readable by any basic text editor.
  • Bosun PKM Vault: Strictly complies with Bosun's file-based indexing and search schemas.
  • Obsidian-Ready Layout: Optimizes attachment folders and index files for direct Obsidian vault imports.
  • Harbor Suite integration: Direct export capabilities targeted at Tender and other Harbor tools.

4. Deployment & Runtime Options

  • Interactive Web App: Runs on our hosted VPS (bosunpkm.com) for fast, zero-setup conversions.
  • Command-Line Interface (CLI): Developer-friendly Node.js CLI tool runnable locally on files.
  • Windows Desktop Installer: Full Inno Setup installer that registers the CLI to Windows PATH automatically.
  • Linux AppImage: Fully self-contained package including the Node runtime—runs on any modern distro.
  • macOS Build recipe: Notarized and Gatekeeper-compliant DMG builds for Mac.
  • Self-Hosted Docker: Standard compose file to run the server on your own home lab or private VPS.
